JPMA Certified
Westwood Design products are built to the highest safety standards.
In addition to meeting the standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
(
CPSC), all our cribs are certified to
the stricter standards set by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association
(
JPMA). When shopping for a crib always
ask whether it is JPMA certified.
Finishes
We go to great lengths to ensure the safety of our finishes.
We exclusively partner with
Valspar for all our finishing materials. Valspar (based in Minneapolis, MN)
has a strong commitment to producing lead-free products. They certify to us that they do not use any lead or other heavy metals in their products (read their letter
here).
In addition, we do our own independent testing for lead and other harmful materials after our furniture is finished.
We have done this since the very first piece of furniture we ever built.
Finish Testing
We test all our products far more extensively than we are required to do. Our finishes have been tested not only for lead, but also against the ASTM F963 standard,
which ensures that toys are non-toxic. It is not a requirement for cribs, but we do it anyway. Here are copies of some actual test

As you can see, all of our finishes fall below the minimum levels the lab is able to measure- not just for lead, but also for antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium,
chromium, mercury, and selenium.
Anti-tip Straps
All of our chests, armoires, and hutches come with anti-tip safety straps included.
These attach the furniture to the wall and can prevent tall, heavy furniture from being tipped over by a child.
We strongly encourage you to look around your house and see if you have any other furniture
that should be secured. Similar straps are available from any baby speciality store, hardware store, or home improvement store.
