Jonesport

Jonesport is the last of our latest batch of new groups. It is currently in its initial production run, and should be arriving in stores around the second half of April.
The finish is really deep and rich, with a lot of glaze. Jonesport hits a lower price point than most of our other groups, but we didn't strip any of the quality out of it to get there, so it's an exceptionally good value.

Does the Jonesport line come in any other colors/finishes? Also when will the full product info be available on your site?
Hi-
There is just the one finish (Tuscan) for now. I'll be adding the full product page probably next week.
The description for Jonesport says "...cherry veneer...". Does this mean the Jonesport line uses a veneer top on all sides of the furniture? If so, then is it solid wood beneath, for the rest of the furniture? And what kind of wood?
I have heard that the use of veneer is not necessarily a quality issue, depending on what and how it is used. However, your competitors like Pali, for instance, uses solid wood (no veneers) in all their furniture. How do you guys compare?
The Jonesport crib is solid poplar, except for two parts: the flat panels on the headboard (which are cherry veneer over MDF for stability), and the stabilizer bars that hold the spring platform (which are plywood). On the cases, the sides, top, and drawer fronts are veneered MDF.
100% solid wood cases have become very rare even in adult furniture. It's difficult to control moisture well enough to keep such a wide piece of solid wood from shrinking noticeably. This is especially true when you are building furniture in a place with high humidity, such as SE Asia. When you bring it to a dry climate, the moisture evaporates out of the wood, and it shrinks and cracks. We avoid that on the cribs by reducing the moisture in drying rooms at the factory, but this is much more difficult to do with a case. In fact, I don't know of anyone who does this. I have also seen plenty of badly shrunk and crack solid wood cases on showroom floors- that damage takes many months to show up (usually the first winter after you bring it home).
I am sure Pali's cribs are solid wood like ours, but I don't know about their cases. Also keep in mind their prices are about 50% higher than ours.
thanks for the explanation... another question though, you mentioned that the crib is solid poplar with a veneer on the headboard, but what about the other furniture in the Jonesport line? or the Stratton line? like the hutch, dresser, nightstand, etc... are those solid poplar too with veneers?
Sorry if that wasn't clear. On the cases (combos, chests, nightstands, armoires, etc.) the sides, top, and drawer fronts are veneered MDF. That is true of all our groups. All of our cribs are solid wood (excepting the use of plywood on the stabilizer bars).
Hello! We just purchased your entire Jonesport line. We cannot wait for it to arrive! I was also wondering when/if you were planning to add a nightstand to the line? We would like to order that too!!!
Hi-
There's no nightstand in the pipeline right now, but it's always a possibility. Thanks for your purchase!
In regards to the Jonesport collection can you use the headboardwithout the Bed Rails?? Also is there anyway for the company to send asample piece of wood? I dont live anywhere close to a retail store thatsells these products. I'm in podunk Mt.
Hi there-
We haven't tried it, but I think the headboard would work fine with a standard metal bed frame. We don't generally have any finish samples we can ship, but if you send me an email (sbennett (at) westwoodbaby.com), I'll see if we have a damaged drawer front or something we can send.
Thanks,
Scott
Scott, I emailed you yesterday with my address. Please let me know if you didn't get it. Thanks Jennifer
